[{"content":"When running a Kubernetes cluster at home — such as on a Turing Pi board with ARM64 compute modules — efficiency and simplicity are top priorities. Running dynamic CMS platforms like WordPress or Ghost introduces databases, caching layers, and maintenance overhead.\nBy contrast, a static blog generated by Hugo requires almost no memory or CPU:\n[Markdown] -\u0026gt; [Hugo build] -\u0026gt; [Nginx alpine] -\u0026gt; [Kubernetes Pod (~10MB RAM)] The Deployment Architecture 1. Multi-Stage Container Build The Dockerfile uses a two-stage build:\nBuild stage: Alpine Linux with Hugo installed compiles the markdown content into static files. Runtime stage: A hardened nginx:alpine image copies the generated static assets and serves them with caching, compression, and security headers. 2. Declarative Kubernetes Manifests The application is defined using pure Kubernetes manifests organized with Kustomize:\nDeployment: Runs 2 replicas with non-root security contexts and minimal resource requests (10m CPU, 16Mi RAM). Service: ClusterIP service routing traffic to port 80. Ingress: Configured for abomb.dev with TLS termination managed via cert-manager. 3. GitOps with Argo CD Argo CD continuously monitors this Git repository (or an Argo CD config repository) and ensures the cluster state matches what is committed. If anything drifts, Argo CD brings it back into compliance automatically.\nWriting a new blog post is as simple as:\nhugo new posts/my-new-article.md # Write your content in markdown... git add . git commit -m \u0026#34;Add new post: my new article\u0026#34; git push origin main Everything else is fully automated.\n","permalink":"https://abomb.dev/posts/hosting-a-static-blog-on-kubernetes-with-argo-cd/","summary":"A deep dive into deploying a lightweight static site on a Kubernetes cluster using GitOps and Argo CD.","title":"Hosting a Static Blog on Kubernetes with Argo CD"},{"content":"Welcome to abomb.dev!\nI have owned this domain for a while and wanted a straightforward, minimal, and fast personal blog. I didn\u0026rsquo;t want heavy CMS platforms, databases to maintain, or complex administrative dashboards. All I wanted was:\nSimple Markdown authoring: Writing a post is as easy as creating a Markdown file in Git and pushing it. Static generation: Blazing fast page loads with zero backend attack surface. GitOps delivery: Native integration with my Kubernetes cluster and Argo CD. Arm64 \u0026amp; Turing Pi friendly: Lightweight resource footprint that runs effortlessly on energy-efficient nodes. How this site works The site is built with Hugo using the clean and responsive PaperMod theme. When changes are committed to the repository:\nGitHub Actions builds a multi-platform container image (linux/amd64 and linux/arm64) using a multi-stage Docker build. The compiled static HTML, CSS, and assets are packaged into a minimal Nginx container image. The image is pushed to GitHub Container Registry (GHCR). Argo CD detects the update and synchronizes the desired state to the Kubernetes cluster. Ingress routes traffic for abomb.dev with automated TLS certificate management. Stay tuned for more posts about homelab experiments, Kubernetes setups, and software engineering projects!\n","permalink":"https://abomb.dev/posts/welcome-to-abomb-dev/","summary":"Welcome to abomb.dev — my new personal blog powered by Hugo, containerized with Nginx, and deployed via Argo CD.","title":"Welcome to abomb.dev"},{"content":"Welcome to abomb.dev Hi, I\u0026rsquo;m Alex Kay.\nThis site is my personal blog where I share notes, guides, and thoughts on:\nKubernetes \u0026amp; GitOps: Managing clusters with Argo CD, declarative infrastructure, and automated delivery.
